California Wildlife Center (CWC) places a high priority on protecting your personal privacy. This privacy policy was created in order to demonstrate CWC’s firm commitment to the privacy of our members and website users. This policy explains what types of information is collected by California Wildlife Center’s website, www.cawildlife.org, and how this information is used.

What Personally Identifiable Information is Collected and How We Use that Information

Individuals who sign up to receive CWC e-communications,  CWC members who fill-out registration forms, and individuals making contributions on www.cawildlife.org, may be required to give us contact information that includes name, address, email address, interests, and similar information. We do not request or store sensitive information from our visitors, such as credit card or social security numbers. We do not share email addresses outside the organization.

Your personal information is for our internal use only. We use it to provide you with personalized service; to send email alerts to you; to answer your requests; to process your membership application; etc. You may always let us know of any information updates or “opt-out,” either now or at any time in the future, if you do not wish to receive our messages.

We may also use your information to track visitors to our website. This lets us see which of our features are the most popular so we can better serve our users’ needs. It also allows us to provide aggregate data about our traffic (not identifying you personally, but showing how many visitors used which features, for example) to outside parties.

Internet Protocol (IP) Addresses

We collect an IP address from all visitors to our site.  An IP address is a number that is automatically assigned to your computer when you use the Internet. We use your IP address to help diagnose problems with our server, administer our site, and for statistical metrics used to track website visitor traffic. IP addresses are not linked to personally identifiable information. CWC does not currently use “cookies” to collect personal information from web visitors.

Security

California Wildlife center goes to great lengths to protect the confidentiality and integrity of any personal information you share with us over the Internet. To ensure the security of credit card and personal information, CWC utilizes some technology from Convio, a software vendor.  Convio has a comprehensive security policy, including use of Secure Socket Layers (SSL) encryption protocol – proven coding system that lets your browser automatically encrypt, or scramble, data before you send it to us – to protect your personal information at all times while in transit.  As a matter of policy, Convio never stores or retains credit card information.
